Yılmaz Acar is a political science graduate from the University of Chicago’s Master of Arts Program in Social Sciences (MAPSS), where he specialized in the politics of the Middle East and graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. His research focuses on Turkish foreign policy toward the MENA region. In his master’s thesis, he analyzed the role of state capacity in the failure of the Kurdish peace process in Türkiye (2013–2015) and explored prospects for a renewed peace initiative.
Born and raised in Mardin, a city in southeastern Türkiye, Acar graduated as the valedictorian of his class in 2016 from Ömerli Anadolu Imam Hatip High School.
After completing two years of intensive English and Arabic preparatory programs, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Ibn Haldun University in Istanbul as a recipient of the prestigious Merit Scholarship, which covered his full tuition, monthly stipend, and accommodation. In 2023, Acar graduated as valedictorian from Ibn Haldun University, earning dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and International Relations, and Islamic Studies, both with a 4.00 GPA.
During his time at Ibn Haldun University, Acar participated in the Sulaymaniyah Madrasah Honors Program from 2018 to 2021. This extracurricular initiative involved a rigorous study of classical texts rooted in the Ottoman madrasah tradition, reflecting his dedication to both academic and traditional Islamic scholarship.
Acar has enhanced his practical expertise in political science by participating in prestigious international programs like the Al Sharq International Fellowship, the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum Diplomacy Academy, and the Doha Debates Ambassador Program.
A passionate advocate for education and youth empowerment, Acar has enriched his international experience through training at prestigious summer schools and internships in the U.S., Morocco, and Germany. He participated in programs at Université Mundiapolis in Morocco and George Mason University in Virginia and completed an Erasmus+ internship in Germany, further broadening his global perspective.
Fluent in Arabic and English, Acar has received numerous prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Best Debater Award and the World Champion title at the International Arabic Debating Championships organized by Qatar Debate. He has also served as an adjudicator at Arabic debating championships in Salt Lake City and New York City.
