Hon. Prof Pierre Gomez is the current Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) in The Gambia. He served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Academics  at the University of The Gambia (UTG). He has served in several occasions as a visiting University lecturer to Universities including Limoges in France, Linnaeus in Sweden, St. Mary’s College in Maryland in the USA, and Gaston Berger of St. Louis in Senegal. He received training in Higher Education Management at Zhejiang Normal University, Jinhua. China and has a fellowship in the same area. For ten years he served as the Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences in UTG.

He is a Professor of Comparative Literature and he served as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia. He has  a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and French (distinction) from the Universitie Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar; Master’s of Arts in Comparative Literature (distinction), Master’s of Philosophy (distinction) and PhD in Comparative Literature (distinction) from Limoges University. In addition, Professor Gomez got a Postdoctoral Fellowship in higher education management (Distinction).
