Dr. Melekoğlu graduated from Selçuk University, Faculty of Education, Primary Education Teacher undergraduate program in 2001. Between 2001 and 2003, he worked as a classroom teacher at Büyük Sarıkaya Village Elementary School in Bahşili district of Kırıkkale province. In 2003, he went to the United States to pursue his master's and doctorate education in special education with an international education scholarship provided by the Ministry of National Education within the scope of Law No. 1416. He completed the Special Education Master's Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005, and the Special Education Doctorate Program in 2009. Dr. Melekoğlu conducted his graduate studies on students with specific learning disabilities and reading skills.

Returning to Türkiye in 2009, Dr. Melekoğlu started working as a research assistant in the Department of Elementary Education of Muğla University, Faculty of Education, and was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Foreign Language Education in 2010. After leaving his position at Muğla University in 2011, Dr. Melekoğlu started working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Education. Dr. Melekoğlu, who became an Associate Professor in the field of Special Education in 2014, was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Special Education at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Education in 2020. Dr. Melekoğlu has held many administrative positions at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, such as Department Chair, Application and Research Center Director, and Graduate Institute Assistant Director. He also served as a Member of the Student with Disabilities Commission of the Council of Higher Education between 2015-2018.

Dr. Melekoğlu, who worked as a faculty member in the Department of Special Education at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Faculty of Education until 2024, was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Educational Sciences at Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Education as of February 2024 and currently serves as a faculty member and Department Chair in this department. In addition, Dr. Melekoğlu serves as the Chair of the Department of Social Policy, Head of the Individuals with Disabilities Assistive Technology and Education Laboratory for Individuals with Visual Disabilities (GETEM).

Dr. Melekoğlu has published articles, books and book chapters in various scientific journals and presented papers in national and international congresses on special education and inclusive education. He has also served as a coordinator, researcher and expert in projects supported by TÜBİTAK, BAP and the European Union, etc. His research interests include specific learning disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, assessing reading skills, increasing reading achievement, integration/inclusion, inclusive education and teacher training.
