Kerry John Kennedy

Professor Kerry Kennedy is currently Chair Professor and Advisor (Academic Development) at The Education University of Hong Kong where he works in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Curriculum Studies in the Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Discover Education, Series Editor of Routledge’s Schools and Schooling in Asia Series, the Asia-Europe Education Dialogue Series and Perspectives on Education in Africa Series. He is also the Series Editor of SpringerBriefs in Citizenship Education for the 21st Century and Co-Series Editor of Governance and Citizenship in Asia Series. In 2024 his co-edited work with Professor John Chi Kin Lee, the Routledge International Handbook of Life and Values Education in Asia, was published. His new book, Disruptions and Civic Education – How Should Young People Be Prepared for an Uncertain Future, will be published by Springer in 2025.

Professor Kennedy is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and a Life Member of the Australian Curriculum Studies Association. In 2012 he was a Co-Winner of the Richard Wolf Memorial Award for Educational Research presented by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). In 2019 he was given an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Citizenship Identity and Citizenship Education European Association that also awarded his book, Civic and Citizenship Education in Volatile Times - Preparing Students for Citizenship in the 21st Century, as the Best Publication for 2019. In 2024 he was listed in the Stanford University/Elsevier Top 2% of cited educational researchers in the world.
